The qualification phase for the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations has witnessed a keen contest among over 14 teams battling to secure the seven places of the continental competition.
Egypt and Botswana have made a bold statement in the first round of the playoffs of the AFCON which will take place from November 19 to December 3 in Cameroon.
Egypt scored twelve goals in the two confrontations with Libya, eight in the first leg in Sousse in Tunisia and four during the return leg in Cairo.
Botswana on the other hand were a tough nut against the Mauritians garnering eleven goals, seven home and four away in Curepipe, without conceding like the Egyptians. The two teams are the only ones to have won both their encounters.
Mali and Zimbabwea qualified by winning their away matches while Senegal imposed on Guinea by penalties.
A rematch between Ethiopia and Algeria will be played in Addis Ababa on March 26.
The queens of women football, Nigeria, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast and South Africa will compete in the second and final rounds to be held in April.
